We report a case of sudden death from retroperitoneal hemorrhage in 73-year-old male due to rupture of peri-pancreatic artery in acute necrotizing pancreatitis. This appears to be the first case report of sudden death from retroperitoneal hemorrhage due to pancreatitis. The rupture site was not identifiable by gross-exami- nation but it was confirmed by microscopic examination. This implies that whenever examiners encounter retroperitoneal hemorrhages in sudden death bodies, histological examination for determining rupture is very important especially when it is failed to be identified by gross examination.
